Roles: Executive Director / Alpine Ski Coach
I grew up at the base of Mt. Ascutney, VT. I started cross-country skiing at the age of 4 and though I did not grow up in a skiing family, I taught myself how to alpine ski in my early teens at Ascutney during the day and at night on the slopes of Whaleback in Enfield NH. I really honed my alpine skills here at Smuggs from 1995 to 1999 where I logged close to 100 days every year skiing with the ‘crazy’ locals.
In 2000, I moved back to the upper valley area, and was given the opportunity to coach a program for 4 – 6 year-old, soon to be ski racers for the Quechee Ski Team in Quechee, VT. I was fortunate to be able to learn from Marilyn Cochran who was the director of the Quechee Ski Team my first two years there. I coached for the Quechee Ski Team for ten years, moving up to the Mid-Vermont Ross program J6-J4 group.
When the opportunity came up this summer to move back to the Mt Mansfield area, we jumped at the opportunity. My wife Katie, my son Jack (11) and my daughter Clare (8) all love skiing as much as I do. I look forward to working with young athletes and being a ski family at Smuggs. When not skiing, I love to mountain bike, hike and garden, and run my landscape design build business 'Paint with Plants.' I look forward to a wealth of skiing experiences that I know are to come at Smugg's.
